The African Economic Outlook 2026 report analyzes the continent’s economic performance and prospects amid a fragmented global environment. While Africa’s real GDP growth is projected to be resilient, reaching an estimated 4.4% in 2025, the report highlights persistent structural challenges, including slow transformation, vulnerability to shocks, and a significant annual financing gap of $1.3 trillion. The central theme of this edition is mobilizing development financing at scale. The report identifies that by addressing inefficiencies in resource mobilization and utilization, Africa could unlock up to $1.43 trillion in additional annual financing. It provides a comprehensive analysis of key areas such as domestic revenue mobilization, public financial management (PFM), formalizing the informal sector, scaling up public-private partnerships (PPPs), leveraging diaspora and institutional capital, and harnessing natural resources. The report also examines the need to strengthen and consolidate Africa’s financial systems and agency in a rapidly changing world. It concludes with detailed short-term and medium-to-long-term policy recommendations to build resilience, achieve sustainable and inclusive growth, and increase Africa’s influence over its development financing.
