Eighty-Six Years of Breeding for African Soils
Seed Co began in Zimbabwe in 1940 as a seed breeding cooperative formed by farmers who recognised that imported crop genetics could not withstand Africa’s drought cycles, heat, and diverse agro-ecological conditions. Over more than eight decades, we have remained committed to one core mission: developing certified, high-performing hybrid seed bred on the continent, for the continent.
Today, Seed Co Group operates as two listed entities — Seed Co International Limited (BSE: SCIL) and Seed Co Limited (ZSE: SEED) — with dedicated breeding programmes, trial networks, and seed production across more than 35 African countries.
“Local genetics beats imported assumptions. Every variety we release has been tested across African climate zones before it ever reaches a farmer’s hands.”
