Position Paper | An Analytical Framework for Rate Design in the Presence of Distributed Generation in Africa.

This report presents an analytical framework for electricity tariff design in the presence of distributed energy resources (DERs) in Africa. As the deployment of distributed generation and other DERs continues to expand, traditional tariff structures are increasingly challenged by the need to reflect the value of services provided by these resources. The report examines the implications of DER integration for tariff design and outlines approaches for allocating costs and remunerating services received or provided by different system users. It sets out key principles and considerations to support the development of fair, efficient, and sustainable electricity tariffs that are aligned with evolving power systems across Africa.
