Product Overview

About SC 506

Why choose this variety?

Yellow dent option with very good drought tolerance and winter green maize potential.

Botswana: SC 506 (PITSE) is an early-maturing yellow maize hybrid that reaches physiological maturity in approximately 124 days, with green mealie at 94 days, silage at 109 days and grain harvest at approximately 132 days. It has a yield of up to 10 tonnes per hectare under very good management. SC 506 has good tolerance to Grey Leaf Spot, excellent drought tolerance and good standability. It is particularly well adapted to low-rainfall environments and areas with high heat units and is described as performing across Botswana’s different production regions. It is also well suited to silage production.

Zambia: SC 506 is an early-maturing yellow maize variety with a maturity period of approximately 127-130 days. It produces yellow, dent grain and has a yield potential of 6-8 tonnes per hectare, equivalent to approximately 120-160 × 50 kg bags. It has tolerance to Grey Leaf Spot, Northern Corn Leaf Spot and Maize Streak Virus, while its cob-rot profile is described as moderate tolerance to Diplodia ear rots. SC 506 has very good drought tolerance and good standability. Its uses include summer grain and winter green maize.
