Malawi: SC 657 Mkango is a medium-maturing maize hybrid that reaches maturity in approximately 128 days. It produces white, hard-dent grain and yields about 10 tonnes per hectare, equivalent to approximately 200 × 50 kg bags. It has tolerance to GLS, NCLB and Turcicum Blight. Uses include summer grain, cattle stover and silage. It is matched to Zones 3, 4 and 5.
Zambia: SC 657 is a medium-maturing white maize variety with a maturity period of approximately 130-136 days. It produces white, hard-dent grain and has a yield potential of 12-13 tonnes per hectare, equivalent to approximately 240-260 × 50 kg bags. Its disease-tolerance profile includes Grey Leaf Spot, Leaf Spot and Northern Corn/Turcicum Blight, while its cob-rot profile is described as good tolerance to Diplodia. SC 657 has moderate drought tolerance and very good standability. It is suitable for summer grain, cattle stover and silage.
